[There's a short pause before-] Are you? Safe, I mean. The last flood I experienced was...less obviously threatening, but I've heard they can get pretty intense. If you stay in your room, you should be safe. or mine, it would at least have a shower if it got too bad.

[Probably. He knows how to take care of himself.]

I know how to keep my head in a situation like this, especially if I have time to prepare for it. Honestly this feels almost normal, what with the-

[He isn't sure if Cain actually can hear what he's hearing when the fog rolls in, so he figures he should ask.]

Can you hear the siren too when the fog comes in, or is it different for you? Someone else told me they heard something different, so it might be specific to each person on board.

[He heard the same thing that Jesus was hearing earlier, though he didn't know what it was, but since then... things have been a bit strange.

He's quiet for a few moments before he answers.]

Sounds like the prison sirens. The ones they'd start up when there was a riot.

Well regardless, watch yourself. I don't think this is going to end with just sounds and isolation. If I look hard enough, I swear I see things out there, moving in the fog.

[He's trying to prepare himself for anything but is unsure what anything might be.]

You'll call me if you need help? I promise I will if you do.

[He's seen things moving, too, and has had absolutely no desire to investigate.]

[That at least gets him to smile, appreciating it. He feels like he'd have to fight Fitz to get the same out of him. Funny that Cain would be less difficult.]

Good. My first flood wasn't fun, but I got through it. I'm sure you will too.

[He puffs out a humourless laugh through his nose.]

I'll be fine. Got a couple of people to look in on, but don't mind you checking up on me. Not that I think I could stop you.

Oh, you couldn't, that's entirely true. [Which he says almost cheekily, because Cain gets it. He isn't trying to keep tabs on him so much, but the keeping eyes on your people during a crisis on this ship is rather important and widely accepted.]

Oh! You should tell me who, if I see them I'll try and check in myself.

Nah, it's fine, I have it handled.

[Then he makes a soft sound, like he's lightly clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

He thinks for a moment.]

Aerith. You know her?

Aerith? She's a good friend. We meet up once a week in the gym while I'm working, chat for a few hours. Though I see her plenty outside of that too.

Yeah. Her.

[Keep an eye out for her.]

I can, and I will. Though you shouldn't worry about her too much, she's got magic, and I'm pretty sure that if anything happened to her, the entire Barge would revolt, but if I see her, I'll make sure she's okay.

Dunno if the shit lurking around out there cares what everyone else thinks.

[And maybe he's just concerned about her! She might have magic, but what if it doesn't work?]
