Hey Abel!

I know we could have waited for our next book meeting [SOLIDER spotting] But I wanted to ask you.

Ever done specs for a garden before?

A garden? No, not really. It's mostly just been technical drawings, machinery, engines, vehicles...

But I'm open for a challenge, and that sounds like it might be fun, what did you have in mind? [He's going to borrow so many books from the library...]

[He's so excited. She loves it.]

So it's kind of a story! I was hoping to make this pond with river reeds, but we need to have like...a living basket on the water so they don't go into the ground. And I was hoping to do some water plants there too.

But maybe too we should rearrange the garden part, in general, to make it more...scenic?

What do you think? Would it be too much?

Well...We could look at the site, survey it? I imagine this would be separate from the pond already in the greenhouse, right?

If we look at the space we have, there's always building up or down, layering it...Depending on how big you want it there could be some built in seating, make it more than just utilitarian for water plants. I'd need your help designing the outer part of it, hide the liner... [He's already got some ideas brewing in there it seems, muttering quietly as he gets up, the sound of him sitting in his chair and rolling over to his holotable.]

Did you have a deadline for this, or just in the planning stages?

[Abel is so into this already. She can hear him muttering and...gosh, it's so cute.

She loves that mind of his, going into overdrive.]

Oh of course we can. This would be a different pond- one that would be specifically so that the river reeds can grow without getting in the way, I think. They'd be likely harvested every so often. It's part of the request I was hoping to fulfill for someone.

[Which would be for Vincent Smith, but that's neither here nor there.]

Thrawn actually found what might work for the reeds-I'll send you the picture.

But no, this is just the planning stages. I wasn't even sure it was possible. I've never designed a pond before but- I think this'll work out great!

[He just likes the work, honestly. It's a skill he can actually use here unlike navigating, and makes him feel useful. That and he enjoys it immensely.]

I think I've seen baskets for pond plants before, though perhaps depending on what you wanted, how many you would need to have the right amount to use, we can look into the growth rate, figure out how much surface area they would need in order to be viable for the request in the first place, then design around that.

I am curious though, is the final product, this design going to be built by hand? Or is this going to be presented to the Admiral? I'm fine with either, but I think it's important, going into it what is possible, come up with an outline for your project, a proposal, and we can go from there?

Mm...I don't think we need too many. We'd have to get the right amount to make sure that it could be cut back on a...monthly cycle maybe? It depends on how much is needed for what.

I just thought of doing it by hand...the building at least. The water I might request to save everyone some backache.

But if you could help with the building process- once we settle on it- I'd be more then glad for the help.

I don't think I can dig that much by myself.

It would probably be decently deep depending on what you wanted...I wonder what we would do with the excess soil.

Hmmm. I'll have to think about that. I don't mind helping dig, but I will he the first to admit I have never built something like this by hand, finding someone with more experience landscaping might help.

[He has to think about it, perhaps Sweeney or Angeal might know a little more, lend some expertise if asked nicely enough? He might be wrong but it seemed both in their interests.]

You know more people I'm sure, recruiting might be a job for you to handle getting more skilled help, but we can look at it, I'll get you a rough draft in two weeks? Probably less than that, but it would give me some wiggle room if something happens.

[who knows when they'll make port so it might be pushed back.]

That's something that we'll have to figure out too. And it'll have to be at least a few feet I think.

[She isn't sure. It's all new to her.]

Maybe I can ask around. Strength I think won't be a problem. I know plenty of strong people.

That's what I thought...Would you like this one to support fish in it like the other pond too, or just plants? I'll try and keep that in mind either way you want to go.

[He's got a lot of ideas already, but he really should do some reading first.]

I can meet you down there when ever you want, get a good idea for the foot print and then you can reach out in a few days? I probably have a little bit of reading that I should do before I actually get started on any kind of design.

[He smiles, though she can't see it over the phone.] Don't even worry about it, this will be fun for me, honestly. And A project like this, something that will stay on board after we're both gone? It's worth the effort. I look forward to working with you, Aerith, so lets make something we're both proud of.

Well...we already have two ponds for fish to eat and to view. I'm not sure- that depends on how well the reeds would work with the fish. Some would thrive and others...not so much.

Depends on what kind of fish we'd want.

[They both need to do some reading. Though she might get distracted with other things, here and there. Possibly some fun crime fiction.]

You know...it's funny. I didn't think of it as a way to leave our mark on the Barge. I just...wanted to help someone out. Something that they wanted, that could help others sometimes.

So- yeah. Let's do that. You can show me what final results you want to make in the Enclosure if you'd like.

I'm not all that well versed in pond fish, so I suppose we'd have to look into that too, but I'm open for it, just let me know what your overall vision is, I'll try and make sure it meets all your needs.

That would be a good idea...maybe I can play with the actual lay out and model in the enclosure with you at some point...play with the way the water falls, and then recreate that in the greenhouse... I have a lot to think about.

Who is this for anyways?

Hmm...it's mostly the reed baskets and maybe a little waterfall? Something that can ensure water flow maybe. I'll have to look it up.

My ideas are kinda vague.

The reeds are for Father Vincent. And the project is for Thrawn.

He...gets bored super easily.

Well, designing a waterfall would probably end up being my favorite part, so I don't mind that at all. The mechanical filtration and aeration a waterfall provides in a pond like that is rather important, keeps it clear.

I haven't spoken to Father Vincent since he arrived...it's been a while, and I haven't met Thrawn personally.

I have seen him on the network though, and...it's good of you to keep him occupied.

And we don't have a little waterfall in any of the other ponds. It might make things harder, but! It'd make things easier!

Father Vincent- Vincent Smith- he works in the chapel as an inmate. He's pretty guarded, but he's polite. I don't know if he's ever gone to the gym, but he likes books?

[Books on the occult, but who's judging?]

Thrawn...well...he's the type that needs a project. Many, many projects which don't have social aspects.

[She sighs. Thrawn, her problem gremlin.]

I think he's one of those people who needs to work or they get really anxious.

I don't think I've ever seen him in the gym, no. And I don't really spend any time in the chapel, but I have seen him in the library.

[Abel is not the biggest fan of magic, he appreciates what it can do, might get excited to see it, but when it's explained to him as just 'it just does that' it bothers him. Reading a book explaining that might be even worse in his opinion.]

I can see that. I think I'm the same way, though less potentially destructive when I am without.

Him being in the library would make sense. No idea what he reads though.

I haven't asked him... I don't really know many priests, so what they might read is also a mystery.

[He thinks a moment, sure that Cain would have been just fine without his assignment, he doesn't think he likes to keep as busy, would be fine keeping to himself honestly.]

He's been reading a lot, I let him into the enclosure frequently enough, though he doesn't really want to show me what he's doing in there, but I didn't really want to pry. He seems well enough when he leaves, so I doubt it's anything I should be worrying about.

And he's a new frequenter of the gym. He likes the bag...kind of made me wonder if he'd like something similar to the training stations we'd had on board the Sleipnir, but I hadn't asked him yet. Maybe a boxing machine might be more manageable...less room sized.

We don't even have priests back home.

[She offered a helpless shrug. Priests and what they read was a mystery to her.]

Oh, Cain has been teaching me how to punch!

[She was all cheerful and proud herself. She can punch people now! But she wasn't very good at it yet.]

Maybe he'd like the boxing machine. There would be others who would like it too. Maybe Cloud would.

You don't? Do they call them something else? Religion is...not my favorite subject, but it certainly exists. I've just tried my best to avoid it.

I've seen him train, he throws a good one. I've been working with Angeal for a while, though Cain could still kick my ass if he wanted to. How's his teaching style?

And I might pose the question to Vaggie...see what she thinks. Maybe we could find one in port instead of request one, depending on how that goes.

No, we just don't have any religion. We used to, I think.

But it's been pretty much forgotten.

[It was cute. The pair of them were very earnest about the lessons. And Cain, while not gentle, did show care during said lessons.]

He's good at it. He doesn't mind my silly questions, and he corrects me when I need it. I can't punch as hard as he can. Not yet.

We're due for port right? Maybe we'll get lucky and have a boxing machine there. I've so many supplies I want to pick up when we go.

I might have to borrow you or Cain or both for pack mule stuff.

[There were a lot of people who found it comforting. To just forget and fade away altogether was odd to him, but perhaps Earth was bigger than her world? Who knew?]

I don't think you want to punch as hard as he can. You'll hurt your hands. [He can remember him coming back late nights, knuckles torn to shit. He'd been trying to keep an eye on that, didn't want him not to wrap himself properly now that he had the option to, but was also trying not to hover so much. It was a difficult line to walk.]

There are quite a few things I'd like to get myself aside from that...We have water available, but I think it would be nice, get something reusable, just refill the cooler, get another one.

And I don't mind at all, Aerith, though Zack could probably carry twice as much. I'm sure you wouldn't even have to ask, just smile and point.

I think it's in part that we know where we will come from and go; the Lifestream. It's kind of just a fact of life now. Water is wet, rain comes from the sky. That kind of thing.

[Earth and Gaia were so different. All the Earth things were just so...odd. ]

I'd have to wear gloves if I did after. For gardening, until I used a spell.

[Which depending might be awhile. She'd want her staff for fighting first.]

Refillable water would be nice. Maybe Zack and the others could pitch a few ideas.

I think perhaps humanity would implode upon itself if it could agree where we go when we die. I was more leaning in the 'that's the end, nothing else' category, but that is interesting that you just...know.

[Weird to think that's just how it is, honestly. So many people throughout history had died for the sake of religion, a world without it...huh.]

When we see what the options are, I was going to brainstorm with Vaggie, but I would be open to suggestions, especially from regulars. Spaces that don't serve the people that use them aren't doing it right, anyways. But, I will be there to help, especially if Zack and Cloud will be there, carrying things. You and I can hang behind, load me up with bags, but my only ask is that I can still see where I'm going. [The smile he's wearing is entirely apparent in his tone.]

Well...it was always kind of reassuring, I think. You give back your life once it's done.

Though...some people thought there was a promised land once. Maybe that's a religion leftover.

And maybe on Earth, the end is the end. I have no idea. It's something to think about.

[Maybe with some wine. It might be a sad conversation. She'd rather talk about shopping honestly.]

You'll have to ask the gym buffs about what's best. Good reason to say hey to some cute guys, maybe?
