A week into the Narenschiff after talking to Cain

Fives makes a point of 'running into' Abel on his way to meet Cain, smiling at the other man and clapping him on the shoulder. "Abel, hey, how are you doing? I'm just heading to meet your buddy Cain on the stern deck so he can show me his marksmanship skills with a blaster." Not 'checking up' so much as sharing information casually with a mutual friend.

Abel might have jumped like he did the last time Fives gets that big hand of his on his shoulder, blinking at him a moment before he processes the words coming out of his mouth. His buddy Cain. He might have a weird look on his face at that phrasing, but don't read into it too much, Fives. He's just being weird.

"Oh! I'm fine. That...sounds like something he'd really enjoy, actually. He's good with a gun." And, seeing as he's starting to calm down, he doesn't have too much to say about it. Cain had never killed anyone that he was aware of, at least not without good reason. It's questionable whether or not the infantry in Cook's office had survived that shoot out. He's trying not to think too hard about the fact that he doesn't really care if they did or not.

He doesn't apologize, because that would be calling undue attention to the reaction, but he does make a note to himself not to do it again. As for the rest, well, he has a very weird view on relationships of every stripe--familial, romantic, and otherwise platonic--so he doesn't tend to read much into anyone's reactions on that count.

"Good! He's offered to help me teach marksmanship with anyone who takes me up on the offer, and Force knows we could all use ways to keep busy and be useful on this Hutt-fucking disaster of a ship." He grimaces in distaste, though that's the most displeasure or discomfort he's ever expressed on their current situation. He's used to rolling with what the universe throws his way, and he's well past showing his thoughts and feelings on his face unless he wants to.

"I think he'll appreciate the distraction, just don't be too familiar." Which, in one of the rare instances of Abel giving advice on how to handle Cain, is really for his benefit. He deserves to enjoy something, and the small nudge in the right direction will hopefully help him actually enjoy it without having to worry too much about the things he might usually.

"What sort of guns are you offering?" He pats the one at his thigh, "This is what he'd be used to, but he's more familiar with guns than I am. This is as close to regulation issue as I could get, though this has a stun setting whereas the alliance models don't." If you ever needed to shoot a Colteron, you didn't usually take it into the brig, it would be shot dead on sight.

"Sure thing," he agrees. Not that he'd planned on it right out the gate anyway.

Fives pats the blaster at his hip in response. "Standard issue in our army. Two stun settings, plus one that'll pretty much maim anything that's not armored up and another that'll blast through just about everything short of the armor I'm wearing, and a handful of species that are resistant to blaster fire."

"That's a little more complicated than mine. Honestly this is modified, I only started with the stun setting, but I requested a lethal setting when that reality shift happened a while back." Because apparently a certain red head needed to psychologically torture everyone on board.

"What the ricochet on that in close quarters or is there one?"
